Paddle Royale was an open inter-agency tournament which was hosted, at the Wit Hotel, by Arc Worldwide/Leo Burnett. For this event, I was challenged with creating a ping pong game display app to be used on the day of the tournament. The challenge was to read data, update new data, alert and direct players to each of the games that were next up on the queue using Flash. The data was distilled using a web service provided by the Challonge.com API, which produced real time XML during the tournament. The tricky part of this app was separating the remote data list from the Main display application all the while updating fresh data in real time. By having two projector files and using localConnection, to channel the data back and forth, this allowed me to display all information independently without having to worry about the operator trying to hide the update list.
